Recipe: Sambal soto

Sambal soto is an Indonesian chile sauce traditionally served as a side dish to noodle soups or other soups as well, like soto ayam. You can store it in the fridge up to 1 week.

Makes: 1½ cups

Ready in: 10 minutes


  • 25 gram / 1 oz almonds
  • 6 green onions
  • 10 red peppers
  • juice of ½ lemon
  • 2 cloves garlic, mashed
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil


Put all the ingredients together and grind to a smooth paste, using a food processor or (even better) mortar and pestle. Serve with soto ayam.
