Recipe: Babi Panggang - Roast pork

This is an Indonesian main dish you can also find in a lot of Chinese restaurants. Can be eaten as a main course with plain white rice. If used as a side dish, reduce amounts accordingly. 

It's essential that you also prepare the special sauce with this recipe.

Preparation time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Ready in: 1 hour 45 minutes


  • 500 gr. (1 lb) fillet of pork (tenderloin)
  • half a white cabbage


  • 2 teaspoons jahe (ginger)
  • 1 teaspoon garlicpowder
  • 1 teaspoon laospowder (lengkuas or galangal)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons kecap manis (sweet Indonesian soya sauce)
  • pepper & salt to taste


  1. Clean the fillet of pork.
  2. Mix all the marinade ingredients and spread over the fillet.
  3. Leave for min. 1 hour.
  4. Roast fillet in oven at 220 celsius (430 Fahrenheit) for about 30 min. until tender.

Serving suggestion

Cut the meat in thin slices and place on bed of finely shredded cabbage. Pour sauce over meat. Serve with plain boiled rice. Also delicious with acar campur as a side dish.
