Recipe: Sambal goreng telor - Eggs in red pepper sauce

Sambal goreng telor is a delicious and a bit spicy Indonesian egg dish. If you are preparing a rice table (rijsttafel), sambal goreng telor has to be a part of it.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Ready in: 25 minutes


  • 8 eggs
  • 2 dl tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp trassie (shrimp paste)
  • 2 red peppers
  • 2 onions
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 200 gram coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice


  1. Boil the eggs 10 minutes.
  2. Halve them and put them on a plate.
  3. Chop the onions, the pepper and the garlic and fry for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the coconut milk and the trassie and cook 5 more minutes.
  5. Add the tomato sauce and the lemon juice, leave some more minutes on the heat and then pour the sauce over the eggs.
