Passport & visa
Visas are not required for short visit (maximum of 60 days) to Indonesia if you are a citizen of one of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldive, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Yugoslavia.
Restrictions for citizens of Portugal & Israel
The most rigid restrictions are placed on citizens of Portugal and Israel, who will be refused entry if they have not applied to the Immigration Office in Indonesia prior and obtained a special permit prior to their arrival. Nationals of the Peoples Republic of China and of the former Soviet Union must:
- have advanced approval to travel in Indonesia.
- have an Indonesian sponsor.
- travel in groups of five or more.
Restrictions for other countries
Residents of the following countries also need to apply in advance for a visa to enter Indonesia: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Rep. of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Yemen.
Bring money
Technically, all visitors to Indonesia are required to have at least US$ 2000 in cash and/or travelers checks (or the equivalent). Credit cards are no longer accepted as proof of your ability to support yourself in the country unless you have a recent statement showing your available credit.
DO NOT OVERSTAY YOUR VISA. Heavy fines and possible prison sentences result if you exceed the length of stay specified on your visa.
